Derrick is the founder of Active Dads Rule. He and his lovely wife Lakisha have 3 awesome children. As a child, he was raised in a single parent home by his mother Faye, along with his 3 younger brothers. At a young age, she charged him with the task of being a positive example and to lead the way for his brothers. Staying true to the charge and overcoming the challenges of fatherlessness, he faithfully committed to the charge his mother spoke in his life. 

In 2016, Derrick recorded and posted to social media, a video of him combing his daughter's hair. Video YouTube link https://youtu.be/hWsbTmWmjH0 

The video was only 87 seconds in length but many felt it was exactly what they needed at the time. During that time, recording of police attacks on unarmed Black men were viral and many men and women needed positive encouragement and images that lifted the heart and mind. As of 2021, the video has been viewed more than 400 million times across multiple social media platforms.

As a result, Derrick has received many accolades for shining light on the negative impacts of fatherlessness and the cry for fathers to be present, active, and engaged with their children. He was named as Vlogger of the year for The Baby Spot Digital Parenting Magazine, voted as the Role-Model of the year by the National Fatherhoods Awards, named as Cosmopolitan Magazines "Internets Most Fascinating People". Derrick also appeared on the Bishop TD Jakes Show and he and his young daughter appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show. He and his youngest daughter Linda are considered to be one of the pioneer daddy daughter duos that inspired the surge of the daddy daughter movement.

He understands the mission and continues to be a positive example for fathers all over the world. He has partnered with two non-profit organizations. The Men and Ladies of Honor (https:/www.honorchangeseverything.com) that operates in the public school system with at-risk youth and Anthem Strong Families in Dallas, Texas (https://anthemstrongfamilies.org) that provides services to adults to help them better champion their families. 

Active Dads Rule wear in any form is a reminder that encourages fathers to be fearless, to overcome obstacles, and be active and intentional in the lives of their children. This bold statement worn across the hearts of dads, sparks the much needed conversation around fatherhood.
